What it’s Like to be a Senior!

S-c-h-o-o-l is the dreadful six-letter word every kid hates hearing throughout their summer vacation.  This particular time often signifies an end to free time to do whatever the heart desires, and is abruptly interrupted by structures and fixed time periods where an individual is expected to work. Often I ask myself, do the rest of my senior peers perceive school in such a negative connotation that I do?

Ebony Burress feels somewhat depressed. Saying “it almost feels unfair how quickly my summer was taken from me” Ebony revels that getting through these trying times is made easier by remembering not to overwork herself and take breaks as needed.”.

Kaylee Kimberlin has similar feelings and enjoys the social scene but is also very passionate about her school work. She insists that the fall semester work – although there is a decreased workload -- is only adding to the pressure and she is “still figuring out how to manage the senior year.”

Quavon Valentine recently transferred from Mount View High School and is our current Beaverinside linebacker/ wide receiver on the football team, is rather impartial about the school year beginning. He admits to being “a little down” because this is his final season of high school sports but he hopes to advance to a college football program. His workload is moderate, giving him time for projects including Upward Bound and the Greater Reach Appalachian Program.

Jamaikah Wallace, a BHS student leader and amazing outside left hitter on the volleyball court, claims the beginning of school has not greatly affected her. She enjoys learning and education. She wants to maintain a good balance between extracurricular activities and her rest, saying “I want to be in bed by around 9 p.m. during school nights.”

Should Students Be Allowed to Leave for Lunch

Article by Breyanna Woods

10/21/15

I think students should be allowed to leave to go get food for lunch. I mean the food at school is so gross. We should be able to leave. Our school doesn’t let us do anything, which is why students leave school all the time or skip. If they were more lenient, kids wouldn’t sneak around. We also aren’t allowed to have cups, which is crazy. If you walk in wih a McDonals’s cup, you’ll get your cup taken away from you. It’s crazy. We get no freedom, and it’s not okay.

The Stress of Midterms

Article by Breyanna Woods

10/20/15

Midterms are so stressful. They are a sum up of everything you’ve learned from the beginning of the year to the middle of the year. Sometimes, your teachers don’t let you know what’s on it. They can range from 100-1 questions, which is the worst. If you have one question on your midterm, and you miss it, you fail. They also count as a whole separate grade on your report card. I don’t think there’s really a way to study for midterms if your teachers don’t let you know what’s on it. Unless you just have a photographic memory, there’s no way you can get a 100 on all of your midterms. If you’re a freshman, midterms can be overwhelming, and even when you’re a senior midterms are stressful. You should be fine though, just make sure you pay attention and always do your homework.

Tattoos

Article by Destany Goodloe and Caitlin Belcher

10/19/15

Society has the mindset that when someone is different, they are automatically worse than someone else. This is exactly the WRONG way to think. A person’s individuality needs to shine and be encouraged. The world doesn’t need to be the same sea of dullness. Tattoos bring this needed personality to life. They show how much time, money, and effort a person is willing to dedicate to something they’re stuck with for the rest of their life, yet these people are treated like gang members or stupid.

I have a tattoo of my own, and I plan to have more. Having ink in your skin makes you even more of an individual, and it makes you unique. You’re wearing beautiful artwork every day, and you shouldn’t be punished for that. Potential employers should never be biased toward tattooed people. Their skin and anything embedded in it doesn’t change how brilliantly they could do the job they are applying for. Employment bias is a major issue. If your employee has ink, don’t fire them or reprimand them. Ask them if they can cover up their tattoos if it really matters to the image you and your company is trying to make toward the public. If it doesn’t really matter, then just treat that employee how they are: a normal, unique individual.

All in all, tattoos shouldn’t make or break a job. Tattoos should not even be brought in to a workplace as an issue. Inked people are just like those who are untouched; they want employment, they have friends, and they work hard. Don’t dismiss them for having unclear skin. Enjoy the artwork revealed, and hire who can do the job correctly. Who knows, it may actually be someone heavily tattooed.

Lack of Free Time at School

Article by Peyton Hart

10/19/15

Students often complain about the lack of free time during school. It seems that we spend more time at school with our peers and teachers than we do at home with our own families. Sometimes being in classes for almost eight hours a day can be tiring, especially considering that many students participate in extracurricular activities or school sports. If during the day, we had a block like study hall, to catch up on homework and missed assignments, students may be more prone to turn in their school work. There is hardly a time when students, especially those who are very involved, have time to do things that they need to do, unless they do it at home. Students also sometimes feel that they are sometimes kept inside the school building to long, especially when there is nice weather outside. If students have the option to eat outside at lunch or go walk the track, this might help find a solution. This way, free time wouldn’t be taking up educational time, but students would still be satisfied.

Should the School Dress Code Be Enforced as Serious as It Is?

Article by Breyanna Woods

10/16/15

All around the world, school dress code seems to be such a huge problem, but only with girls. Guys can wear a tank top, or boat shorts that come up way past their knees. If a girl ever came to the school with shorts on that came up past their knees, or their shoulders out, we would be sent right to the office. Schools only focus on the girls. At our school, we aren’t even allowed to have one little tiny hole in our jeans above our knees.  If we do, we will be sent right to the office. In my opinion, if they are going to judge the girls, then they should judge the guys too. They claim that it’s a distraction, but just teach your sons to keep their hands to themselves, not on other people. You should be able to wear WHATEVER you want. No matter your gender, the way you dress should not define who you are as a person. It’s just a way of expressing yourself. They shouldn’t freak out when kids wear stuff that doesn’t cover their shoulders because it’s not that serious. Shoulders are not a distraction, they’re just shoulders.  If they are going to enforce that they should also enforce it for the guys too, not just the girls. That’s sexist. If you’re going to get on girls for wearing the same thing as guys, but not get on them, don’t get on anyone at all. You have to be fair about things like that. So the next time you get on a girl for something she has on, also get on the guys too.

ACT

Article by Kiara Moore

10/16/15

Being a senior or a junior means you’re old enough to take the ACT. My advice to any underclassmen would be take the ACT for the first time while you’re a junior. It’s so much easier because you’ll have another year to prepare for it if you don’t get the score you want. Studying for the ACT is so stressful. You never really know what you need to study, then you just end up frustrated and decide not to study at all. At least that’s how I was.

Being a Senior is Bitter Sweet

Article by Kiara Moore

10/16/15

Being a senior and getting ready to graduate is so bitter sweet. In my opinion, it’s beyond stressful. It’s so much more that goes into being a senior than people tell you. Aside from keeping our grades up, we also have to worry about capstone projects. That’s not to mention our senior stuff, which is almost $400. Enjoy being an underclassmen while you can. It all changes when you hit 12th grade.

Halloween

Article by Peyton Hart

10/15/15

Now that it is October, everyone seems to officially be in the fall spirit. The holiday of Halloween is creeping upon us very quickly. There will soon be corn mazes, hay rides, and pumpkin patches open all around us. Lots of people will travel farther to enjoy haunted houses such as the Major Graham Mansion in Wythville. Some will even drive to Carowinds to enjoy their Halloween festival known as Scarowinds. Remember that even though this holiday is known for spooks and scares, be safe!

Football or Basketball?

Article by Kiara Moore

10/14/15

The question is; which one do you prefer the most? I myself personally like basketball season better because it’s indoors. I don’t have to worry about being in the cold or rain. You don’t have to worry about sitting down on a cold bleacher either. I like football, don’t get me wrong, but if I had to choose, I’d choose a basketball game any day.

Winter Formal

Article by Kiara Moore

10/14/15

I really hope we have a winter formal this year. We didn’t get to have one last year due to the lack of ticket sales, but this year, I feel like it would be a success. I’ve already heard so many people talking about wanting to go. Winter formal is a chance for the underclassmen who might not be able to go to prom to have fun with us upperclassmen.

Bipolar Weather

Article by Kiara Moore

10/14/15

Am I the only one that thinks this weather is bipolar? One day it’s really warm and pretty outside, almost like spring or summer time, and the next day it’s rainy and cold like it’s winter time. Sometimes I don’t know what to wear. On the days it’s warm, it’s too hot for boots, but on the days it’s cold, it’s too cold for sandals.

No Homecoming Dance

Article by Kiara Moore

10/14/15

Homecoming week was a fun, interesting week. The only thing I didn’t like about it was we didn’t have a dance. Homecoming dances are supposed to be a tradition. It’s my senior year, so I wanted to enjoy every aspect of homecoming. I was expecting to go to the game, then to the dance afterwards and have a good time with my friends.

School Lunches

Article by Jasmine Billings

10/13/15

The lunches that we have at school are nasty. We need better, healthy lunches. We don’t need snack machines. We could have chips and candy sold in the line when we get our trays. We could be able to by water bottles or juice. At my old school, we had soft pretzels, juice, soda, chips, chocolate, good chicken, Chinese food, pizza, and hot chocolate in the winter when it was cold. We were able to get coffee in the lunch line. All of it was healthy, and it tasted good. I think our lunches need to step up their game.

The Moody Weather

Article by Breyanna Woods

10/12/15

Lately, the weather has been so rocky.  It’s sunny one day and then one day it’s not. Last week, it rained the WHOLE entire week and only got to about 70 degrees. At nights, it felt like winter, and even throughout the day it felt like winter time. It felt like we skipped fall and went straight to winter. Although this week it’s been sunny and pretty, I’m sure next week the temperature will drop and go right back to feeling like winter time again. I’m not complaining about the weather drop because I love winter, and I love snow, I’m just not ready for it yet. I don’t really think anyone is ready. Be sure to stay warm, or cool (depending on the weather) and dress accordingly.

Free College

Article by Destany Goodloe and Caitlin Belcher

10/7/15

Everyone knows that having children is a long term financial commitment, but how much is that cost? A report taken by the U.S. Department of Agriculture in August, 2014 showed that a middle class child raised by their parents until age 18 would cost them over $304,000, $75k from housing, education $45k, $40k for food, $35k for transportation, $35k for health care and clothing, and $20k miscellaneous. However, none of that covers the cost of a college education.

The cost of a college degree and of the resulting student debt has risen enormously since 2008, to over $1 trillion. But what if college tuition could be free for those in public colleges and universities, without costing the government any more than it’s already spending?

With over 7.5 million people in 2 year institutions and 8.2 million in 4 year institutions, there’s approximately $62.6 billion in tuition collected and $77 billion in federal non-loan educational aid being provided. Yet, the government could end it all with fully subsidizing tuition at public colleges, following the example of nearly all of Europe.

Why Drinking Water Makes Life Easier

Article by Samantha Hicks

10/3/15

Doctor’s always tell their patients to “drink more water” and to “cut out the soda,” which may get annoying and repetitive after a while. Yet, they are very right! Water does more than just keep you hydrated, it helps your body out in many different ways. Drinking water helps your skin clear up very much, while drinking soda can easily give you acne due to the sugar in the drink. Water also keeps your calories under control, so you will not get overweight and unhealthy. H2O helps out your kidneys and your bowel system as well. Water is very important and should be drank regularly instead of soda.

Homework

Article by Jasmin Billings

10/3/15

During the school week, besides Friday, I think we should have homework, but not a lot. Just maybe ten problems or less. On Fridays we shouldn’t have any homework because it’s a Friday. Students should be able to sit back and relax on the weekend instead of having homework. That’s why they give us the weekend off. We can relax and enjoy family time, go to the mall or the movies, go out to dinner with your friends and stuff like that. We shouldn’t have to feel like we need to do homework on the weekends. Yes, it keeps your mind on track, but you also need time to give your brain a rest from school and work. Homework should help you understand it more and help you in class. Maybe if students paid more attention in school, then they would understand the homework and class work, but some kids just don’t get it right off the bat so they need help. If you don’t understand the work because you’re not paying any attention, then that’s your fault.

Dress Code

Article by Jasmine Billings

10/3/15

The dress code is very important. Most of the dress code is acceptable, but other parts are just ridiculous. I feel the three finger rule is understandable, but I mean if your spaghetti strap shirt covers your cleavage, back and stomach, then it should be fine. Shorts at mid-thigh is just crazy. If they don’t show off your back end, then I mean it shouldn’t matter. The dress code is a lot different than I remember, but that’s just my opinion. I’m not saying that they should change the dress code because you should respect the dress code.

Bottled Water

Article by Samantha Hicks

9/30/15

Bottled water is a lot better than tap water in my opinion. Bottled water is a lot more pure, and it often has nutrients and vitamins included in it.  Tap water is often filled with germs and things that can get you sick. Stuff from the pipes that your water flows through can also contaminate your water, as well as your water supply. You can get a filter for your tap water, but that still doesn’t have the extra vitamins you can be getting with bottled water. Bottled water is much safer, and more dependable than tap water, and I believe everyone in the world should have access to it.

Best Friends

Article by KiAirah Sibley

9/23/15

Everyone has that one person that they can call a best friend. Each person has their own criteria for someone else to meet to even consider talking to them. Being a “best friend” does not come first. There are different stages to a friendship. You have the beginning where you and your new acquaintance just talk and get to know each other.  Shortly after you talk and feel comfortable around one another you may start spending time outside of school with each other. Then you are bound to pick up the label of friends. Finally after spending a great deal of time with each other, and gaining trust and respect for one another, then you will begin to realize you have found your best friend.

Ridiculous School Dress Code

Article by Breyanna Woods

9/23/15

The school dress code is so ridiculous! It is the craziest thing ever. Guys get away with more than the girls. If girls wore the same thing as guys did to school, they would be immediately put in inschool or sent home. Guys wear the little boat shorts that go way above their knees, but if a girl did something like that, she would be called out as soon as she walked in the door. I honestly think if schools worried about education more than dress code, things would go a lot better. Parents should teach their sons how to CONTROL themselves, and we wouldn’t have this problem. So really the next time you see a boy wearing short shorts or showing their shoulders please remind them that they’re violating the dress code!!

More than Just a Job Title

Article by KiAirah Sibley

9/21/15

Not all teachers feel the same when it comes to the way they run their class. Mrs. Williams says “I am so much more than just a teacher. I am an encourager, supporter, and an inspirer.” She goes out of her way to learn how each of her students learn best. Mrs. Williams runs each class differently, some do more hands on than others and some take more notes. She runs each class depending on the way the students learn. More students would pay closer attention in class if the teaching styles were more targeted towards the individual student instead of assuming that we all learn the same.

Breakfast in the Classrooms

Article by Amaya Brooks

9/18/15

Honestly, I don’t get the point of eating breakfast in the classroom. I actually find it easier to just keep it in the cafeteria. Desks end up covered in food and teachers or students have to go out of their way to clean them. Yes, it is the students’ responsibility to keep their area clean, but accidents sometimes happen. For example, if a piece of food falls on the floor, and no one notices, then what happens? We get an ant infestation. Once again, an easy way to keep this under control would be to keep all the food in one area of the school. I also think that it would be easier on the janitors. Not only would they have to stop going from room to room, but they wouldn’t have to worry about any messes in any classrooms.

Fast Food

Article by Chris "Tiny" Taylor

9/15/15

I find fast food very delicious, and sometimes even useful. For example, when you do not have free time to cook normal dishes, you can go get fast food. Thank God, there is no McDonald’s in my town. I think I would be much fatter than now if there was. When I first visited fast food, I drank 4 Milkshakes and ate lots of fried potatoes. I just could not stop because it is too amazing, but of course all amazing things cannot be perfect.

People often say that fast food is very dangerous for our health, and that it is made from a bad sort of products. I suppose that can be true because often businesses work a lot of employees at once, and I don’t think that all of them worry about sterility. After watching programs about harmful fast-food, I came to realize that it is a choice if you love to drink Coca-Cola or eat lots of burgers, hot-dogs, pizzas, fried potatoes, chicken etc. You have to be ready to become fat and have problems with health.  If you want to be thin and healthy, there should be no place for this sort of food in your stomach!

Tattoos

Article by Chris "Tiny" Taylor

9/15/15

I have a tattoo, and I still don't care if your tattoo is an expression of yourself. I don't care if it has some deep meaning to you and only you. I don't care what it is, or if it looks like someone doodled on your skin. It detracts from a professional appearance. It’s like all you’re doing is rebelling senselessly against the norm. Come to me looking for a job, and when you want to tell me about how important your tattoos are to you and your sense of expression, watch me hire somebody else. By your appearance, you are not upholding the professional appearance I hold myself to, the same professional appearance I expect from my subordinates. By looking like you fell asleep at a party with your shoes on, you most certainly do not have that appearance.

Is College Worth It?

Article by Chris "Tiny" Taylor

9/14/15

When going to college, money isn’t the only issue. The specter of successful college dropouts like Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates, and Steve Jobs weighs on young people making the decision on whether or not to go to college. Some experts argue that attending college has become less about learning actual skills and more about simply paying to have a degree. Academically Adrift Limited Learning on College Campuses, published earlier this year by the University of Chicago Press, found that 36 percent of college students did not demonstrate any significant improvement in learning during their college educations. So you tell me is a college degree still worth it?

Expressing Yourself

Article by Amaya Brooks

9/14/15

It’s very important to express yourself. Reason being it adds variety to us as a student body. It doesn’t matter what other people think about you because once you get out of here you most likely won’t have any contact with any of the people you were in school with. All you’ll be stuck with is regrets! I strongly encourage that you all express yourselves the best you can because even if people don’t like it (and not everyone will), at least you will know who your real friends are.

Seniors off to College

Article by Destany Goodloe and Caitlin Belcher

9/14/15

College is a wide horizon of opportunities for any high school seniors wanting to further their education. Despite this, approximately 15% of all seniors in the United States don’t know how to correctly and efficiently apply for college or prepare for the transition into college life. In high school, students have but a limited variety of courses to choose from at certain periods of time, and in college, there are dozens, even hundreds of classes to select. Colleges allow individuals to develop their education and their skill levels, due to the methods of choosing their own criteria of classes and the ability to shape their future upon their necessary courses.

Dej Loaf is 24 years old, and she is so amazing. I love her. Her voice is sooo great. Her songs are really catchy and fun to listen to as well as sing. Check out her new EP called #ANDSEETHATSTHETHING on iTunes, and let me know if you like it!

Change

Article by Amaya Brooks

9/11/15

I think change can be super hard and stressful, because it’s hard to adjust and start over. Yes, it can be for the better, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy at all. I’ll admit I do like some change, but other times no. For example, if you moved out of state or a friend had to move, it can be for the better, but it’s super hard on your life and can be extremely hard to adjust to. So if you know anyone who is going through some major changes, just try your best to be there for them. You could help them out a lot.

Pepperoni Cheese Roll Day!

Article by Samantha Hicks

9/9/15

If there is one day the students of Blufield High School love, it’s pepperoni cheese roll day in the cafeteria! Everyone is so excited about this day, even in the few days before. Pepperoni cheese roll day happens so rarely, that people get ecstatic when the bell finally rings for lunch and they get to rush down the stairs to the lunch room and get in line. Pepperoni cheese roll day really brings to whole school together because everyone is anxiously waiting to have a good, delicious lunch.

Attention all Teachers!

Article by KiAirah Sibley

9/8/15

Granted teachers have a degree and are abundantly smarter than the students, but don’t count us out. A lot of times teachers complain about how their students don’t understand the material, or about the students sleeping through class, and the biggest one is that the students don’t pay attention and aren’t involved. Students don’t learn the same way so yes it would be difficult to try to find a way to entertain everyone. A lot of students respond well to teachers who try to relate to them or interact with them.  Students also enjoy it when they have hands on activities instead of sticking directly to the text book. The text book should be used as a guideline to teach not a rule book. Most importantly, students want to be respected, but they don’t like it when the rule of “you have to give respect to get respect” isn’t important. It really isn’t that hard to get the students involved and keep their attention during class. Teachers just need to listen and pay attention to what their students are trying to tell them.

It's Our Year to Graduate!

Article by Kiara Moore

8/28/15

Can you believe it? We’re finally seniors! We’ve waited so long for this, and it’s finally here. It’s crazy how much we’ve all matured since freshmen. We have exactly 9 months until graduation. I don’t know about you, but I’m sort of excited about this. Freshmen year, I didn’t think this year would come so quickly. It seems like yesterday we were all getting booed for being freshman. Now we are the top dogs. We might not be that close as a class, but I wouldn’t trade class of 2016 for anything. I hope after we all walk across the stage, everyone gets to be, or do whatever it is they want in life.

Disrespectful Behavior

Article by Amaya Brooks

8/28/15

I honestly don’t see a need for disrespectful behavior. I mean, am I the only one who doesn’t understand why kids act the way they do towards teachers? It’s very upsetting when students can’t help a teacher out. I understand if a student has had a bad day, but that doesn’t excuse them for mouthing off to someone. If a teacher tells you to do something, all you need to say is “okay”, and if there’s a reason you can’t then tell them. Many teachers I’ve had are very understanding and will listen if you need to talk after class. Honestly, if everyone did what they’re supposed to do, there would be no conflicts in the first place. For example, people get mad when teachers take their phone. You shouldn’t have it in the first place! I completely understand a person wanting to keep their phone on them for emergency reasons, but they need to put it in a place that teachers can’t see and keep it off. They shouldn't use them in the middle of class. Other times kids get mad when they are caught talking. Like I said, just say “okay” and stop. Kids stay defensive for some reason, and I don’t understand why. I’ve been in school for a while now, and I’ve managed to keep perfect conduct the entire time. Trust me when I say all teachers want is for you to follow directions when asked, and any type of conflict will disappear. Now if a teacher is being the disrespectful one then that’s a different story. That’s when you need to talk to an administrator and take care of the problem through them. It’s not smart to confront the teacher in the middle of class. So overall just please be respectful towards teachers and everyone else.

Music is Important to the Student Body

Article by Samantha Hicks

8/28/15

Music is a big part of school, especially in Bluefield High School. In school, people are always singing and dancing to the most popular music. Everyone will easily know the most popular tunes due to everyone constantly blasting them. This is why music is important to the student body. People get along when they are all singing to the same song and dancing to the same beat. Often teachers will get mad at students for singing in the hallways, but isn’t it better than people throwing punches and screaming at each other? Music helps the student body be united, which is why I believe music is important in the world.

No Phones in School?

Article by Charlie Fowler

8/28/15

I believe the cell phone policy should be a tad more lenient. I can understand not having your phone during tests, or important events, but you should be able to have them when you are done with everything. Usually, when you see a student on their phone in school, they are just checking for updates or simply looking at the time. They aren’t always trying to cheat on things. Another good time you could have your phone is during lunch. At that time, nobody has assignments, and they have nothing else to do except socialize, which phones allow you to do. Generally I think having phones in school is not a bad idea, or at least make some less strict rules.

Music Brings the World Together

Article by Breyanna Woods

8/28/15

Music is such a universal thing. You can connect with people through music. There are many different types of music genres. You can connect feelings and emotions into music. Most of my friends and I love the same music. Artists can tell their fans how they feel, and what they do. Most countries have their own famous artists. The music we listen to in the US is different from the music in Japan, but some people over here may prefer Japanese music, and that is just an example of how music can connect people and make friendships. So spark a conversation with a stranger and ask them their music taste.

Homework

Article by Amaya Brooks

8/28/15

Personally, I think the administrators are taking the dress code a little out of proportion. Girls would like to be comfortable, and if it’s hot outside then we should be able to wear shorts, dresses, or skirts. This day and age it is very hard to find those things that can 100% comply with universal rules like “the fingertip rule” or “the three finger rule”. Also girls’ finger width and arm length aren’t the same. If I have thinner fingers then my straps will be thinner, and if I have shorter arms then then my skirts and shorts will be shorter. I had a friend who wore a shirt that had straps that were the same width as her fingers, but it was still in violation of the dress code. I would like for the rules to be more lenient, and possibly a little more specific.

I had a friend who wore a shirt that had straps that were the same width as her fingers, but it was still in violation of the dress code. I would like for the rules to be more lenient, and possibly a little more specific.

Thrift Shopping

Article by Breyann Woods

Fashion is not very important to a lot of people, but what people don’t understand is that you can be fashionable for cheap. You don’t have to pay an arm and leg to look good. Even though most people may complain about not caring about being fashionable, you can be fashionable for less. Before you complain about clothes and how much they cost, know you can just go thrifting. I actually like going thrifting because I can buy really old jeans and cut them and make them into shorts. You can also find really vintage stuff in thrift shops. Not all thrift shops are old and have nasty clothes. You can go to a newer one and it’ll pretty much be like shopping at a brand new clothing store.

The New Tardy Bell

Article by Amaya Brooks

I don’t think having the tardy bell ring at 8:00 is the best idea. Some people can’t get to school until a little later, and believe it or not an extra 5 minutes could make the difference between being tardy and being on time. Not to mention if a kid gets here at 7:55 and their locker is on the other side of the school, they have to walk all the way to their locker and back to their advisory. What about the kids who have a hard time getting their locker open? I mean, let’s be honest people. A lot of the lockers in BHS are not in the best shape. Let’s say your locker is jammed and you can’t get it open, what would happen?  Well, you’re late! It’s rough always being in a panic because you didn’t get here at the “ideal” time. Yes, students have crazy mornings too. Even some of the teachers get here late. I admit, most students do get here at 7:00- 7:45, however the few that don’t may have a good reason they can’t make it to school a few minutes earlier. It’s hard for a family to adjust their morning routine in order to get their kid to school, so why not help them out? I just think it would be nice to be sure all students really have a chance to be here on time. Like I said, an extra 5 minutes could make the difference between tardy and on time.

Dear Freshmen

Article by Kiara Moore

Dear Freshmen,

This letter might not seem like much. I know most of you all are excited about being in high school so here’s my advice to you. Enjoy it while you can. Don’t be in a rush to grow up. Before you know it, you’ll be like me, a senior wondering where the time went. The next four years just might be the best years of your life. Just remember, always expect the unexpected.

I can’t stress this enough. Pay attention in your classes. What you learn will help you out once you become upperclassmen.

Don’t ever let anyone bring you down, and never be discouraged to participate in school activities. Go to games, homecoming, and join clubs. Make the days count.

Please, please, please, do not be a bully. In no way is that ”cool” or funny. Don’t try to be a class clown either. Be respectful to every teacher you have. You never know, you might benefit from it in the long run. Yeah, joking around is cool sometimes, but not every day. Just remember words can hurt. Try complimenting someone if they look like they they’re having a bad day. You never know, you might make their day better.
