NHS

The National Honor Society (NHS) is an organization for outstanding high school students. The students who belong to this club show excellence in scholarship, leadership, service, and character. There are NHS chapters in all 50 states. Every high school in Mercer County has a NHS chapter.

The Bluefield High School NHS is led by Mrs. Shawn Williams. This is Mrs. Williams’ first year as NHS director. Previously, Bluefield High School’s NHS was led by Mrs. Anna Lilly. NHS is a very select group of students. To be inducted to NHS students have to keep a high GPA, have community service hours, and be respected by teachers all over the school. Usually, students are inducted to NHS in the spring of their junior year, but this year sophomores will be inducted as well.  Students will stay in NHS for the remainder of their high school career unless they provide a reason to be dropped from the organization.

NHS does many things for the community and school. This year they have held many after school cleanups. The members of NHS stay after school and pick up trash to make the school campus look better. NHS has also helped with the community Christmas tree.

May 14, 2015 at 6:00pm is when new members will be inducted to NHS. These students will be taking over NHS, while current members will be graduating. National Honor Society is a great organization to be a part of. It can open up many doors to scholarships and special privileges coming soon in your college careers.
