This week, your very own Bluefield Beavers are set to take on the Greenbrier East Spartans. This is a match of two very good football teams. Your very own Beavers are 4-0 this season and ranked 3rd in AA high school football.  They hope to continue this streak this Friday night. Kickoff is at 7pm, and it should be a battle until the end. Wish your fellow Beaver football player good luck as they take on the AAA opponent! Greenbrier East is 2-2 this season and looking to better themselves tonight, but the Beavers think otherwise.

Bluefield vs. Gate City

Article by Randall Maxey and Mike Price

9/23/15

Friday, September 18, the Bluefield Beavers squared off with the Gate City Blue Devils. The Blue Devils won the toss and elected to defer until the second half. Bluefield started off with a 3 and out and surrendered a punt return for a touchdown for Gate City’s first TD. The Beavers again suffered another 3 and out at the hands of a stout Blue Devil defense. The Blue devils marched downfield until their QB broke up the middle for a 40 yard TD. They missed the point after to take a 13-0 lead over Bluefield. Bluefield finally got on the board in the second quarter when Mookie Collier took the ball on a sweep around the right side 60 yards for a touchdown. The PAT was blocked to cut the lead to 13-6.  Bluefield again marched down the field to make a last second field goal from 37 yards out to make it 13-9. Gate City came out of the half in a big way scoring on a two yard run from their fullback set up by a 65 yard run a few plays prior. The Beavers got the ball again and scored on a 58 yard run from Carlos Reed. Again, the extra point was blocked to give the Devils a 20-15 lead. The Beavers defense held the Gate City offense to no points and Bluefield scored again on another long run from Mookie Collier. This time, they converted the PAT to take the lead 22-20.  Bluefield again was the next to score, but this time on a 45 yard run up the middle from Truck Edwards. This gave Bluefield a 29-20 lead. Bluefield scored two more times as well as Gate City to give a final score of Bluefield 42 Gate City 35.

Bluefield vs. Woodrow Wilson

Article by Randall Maxey and Mike Price

9/15/15

Last Friday night, the Bluefield Beavers took on an old rival, the Beckely-Woodrow Wilson Flying Eagles. The Beavers jumped out to an early start with “Mookie” Collier taking the opening kickoff 70+ yards for a touchdown. Zac Springman added the extra point to jump up 7-0. On the Eagles first play from scrimmage, Ashton Shaw forced a fumble on a hit and fellow senior Randall Maxey secured the football and the possession for Bluefield. On the ensuing drive, The Beavers were stopped on their first three plays until Junior Carlos Reed made an Odell Beckham like catch to give the Beavers the first down. A few plays later Reed scampered into the end zone and Springman again punched in the PAT to go ahead 14-0. The next time Bluefield got the ball, “Mookie” Collier ran 58 yards around the left side to score his second of three touchdowns on the night. After the beavers got ahead 21-0, the Flying Eagles finally got on the board with a touchdown run up the middle and completed the two-point conversion to make it a 21-8 game. Bluefield’s next possession resulted in a 25 yard TD pass from Jordan Smith to Mookie Collier. Once again, Springman kicked it through.  Beckely-Woodrow again drove down the field and scored on another run, but failed to convert to make the score 28-14. Once the Beavers got the ball they once again scored on a pass from Smith to Reed for a 51 yard score to go into halftime 35-14.  After halftime the Beaver defense stopped the Eagles and then marched down the field and punched it in with a 12 yard Quarterback keeper up the middle with Smith. The next Bluefield Touchdown came on an 80 yard run up the middle from power back Jason “Truck” Edwards. For the Beavers, their final touchdown came on a QB sneak from River View transfer Mike “The Prodigy” Price.  Later on against the Beavers JV squad, Beckely-Woodrow closed out the scoring with another run up the middle and a high arching pass over the defense for the two-point conversion to end the game 56-22. This was the Beavers 3rd win on the season and continues their undefeated season so far.

Mike Price's First Beaver vs. Graham Game

Article by Randall Maxey

Michael is a junior here at BHS and, and he is 16.  This year, he got his first experience of the Beaver vs Graham game! He plays defense for your very own Beavers, and this past week, one of the biggest high school football games in West Virginia occurred, and he got to be a part of it. “There is no other feeling like this one,” Mike says. “Picture this.  You’re setting there in the locker room, getting ready to go out, and you’re just shaking, but not because you are afraid or worried, but because you’re so anxious and ready! This is way more than just a game. This is two competitive teams going into battle for four quarters, fighting until that final buzzer rings and someone comes out on top, and this year that was us. The feeling that everyone has not, just me, is unreal. You cannot project this feeling. When you put the pads on, tuck the jerseys in, and strap those helmets, everything is silent walking through the hall ready to burst out the door in front of thousands of fans. The only thing you hear is the cleats clicking, and that should give you chills. You hear the echo of the fans’ screams. There is no greater feeling at that moment than when you celebrate the first win with your teammates, your brothers, and your family! Knowing all that work you put in all summer up to this moment was worth it! These Beavers are feeling dangerous!!!”

Article by Mike Price and Randall Maxey

Your very own Bluefield Beavers scrimmaged the Christiansburg Blue Demons Saturday, August 15. The JV squads started off the day running ten plays apiece on offense. Bluefield’s running back, freshman Tres Ammaker and junior Mike Price, were standouts for the Beaver JV. When the Varsity boys took the field, Christiansburg started off with their ten plays and scored twice during that span. The Beavers took the ball and scored on a 60 yard run from Lykell “Mookie” Collier on their very first play from the scrimmage line. The Beavers would go on to score one more time in their ten plays. The day moved on to game situations, and the Blue Demons scored on their first drive and made the PAT to take a 7-0 lead. When the Beavers had the ball, they marched down field and scored on a 4TH and 14 play on a 30 yard pass to junior Carlos Reed. They converted the two point conversion and made it 8-7. Christiansburg had the ball again and again scored and made the PAT to go ahead 14-8. Bluefield started with the ball and scored for a 2nd time on a 8 yard scramble from junior QB, Jordan Smith. The Beavers once again opted to go for two and completed the conversion to take the lead 16-14. The next series for the Blue Demons resulted in no points as the Beavers stopped them on a key 4th and 3 sack from sophomore LB, Jason Edwards. The Beavers took the ball and went all the way down to the 20. They scored on a 20 yard rush from Reed and completed the two point conversion to end the day with a final score of Bluefield over Christiansburg, 24-14.
