The Bluefield Lady Beavers pass through the Richland Tornadoes with a win of 9-0. Zoe Nicewander, playing number 1 singles, beat Victoria Whited of Richlands 8-1. Number 2 singles featured Brittany Holt with a win by forfeit (due to them not having a number 2 singles position), Camilla Deeb played Allison Goodman for the win of an 8-2 score in the 3rd singles position. Emma Cole also received a victory in the 4th singles position playing Desiree Alley, leaving the score with a crispy 8-0. Lily Wright, our handy freshman, won her singles match 8-0, along with Carol-Anne Cole who won her 6th singles position 8-0.

Our girls had anything but a tough time playing doubles in this tornado forecasted weather leaving Zoe Nicewander and Lily Wright with an unexpected win by forfeit at the number 1 position. Brittany Holt and Camilla Deeb were spotted another 8-0 victory, also leaving Carol-Anne and Emma Cole with another 8-0 win.

Article by Zoe Nicewander

1/29/15

The 2015 Bluefield High School tennis season is shortly beginning to unfold with practice in a little over a month. Both the boys and girls team will be starting their first practice of the season on March 3rd. Every one interested in playing must have their sport physical turned in to Mr. Jones by the end of February. The boys are in need of players with experience or none at all, leaving Mark Clap (sophomore) as Bluefield’s only returning player from the boy’s previous season. The girl’s 2014 season was very successful leaving Bluefield High School with a runner-up state championship (losing by 1 point), and also leaving Zoe Nicewander (sophomore) and Molly Lovern (senior) with a state championship win in number 1 doubles, and also leaving Emma Cole (junior) and Camilla Deeb (sophomore) with a runner-up state championship win. All of these achievements have the girl’s team very excited to compete in this years following season. Although, the girl’s team lost three top seeded seniors, Molly Lovern, Alexandria Lewis, and Claire Bailey, the girl’s team is still looking very strong. Returning this year to play as upper classmen are Emma Cole, Camilla Deeb, Zoe Nicwander, and Brittany Holt. The returning underclassmen are Elizabeth Warner, Carol-Anne Cole, Maggie Musick, Autumn Meadows, Lily Wright, and Zoe Colley. Both the Boys and Girls are very excited for the upcoming season and cannot wait to compete.
